The Backpackers Hostel, Lucerne, Switzerland
The Backpackers Hostel is another example of a true travelers hostel. As I mention in a couple of my other Lucerne blogs, the town isn’t one of extraordinary sites comparable to Rome’s Coliseum or Paris’s Eiffel Tower, but surrounding the town is wonderful things amounting to nothing less than true “sites”.
So then, it should be no surprise that the Backpackers Hostel resides in the heart of a neighborhood, one so extraordinary in its ordinariness. The first night I was there, I stayed in a four-bed dorm, but since the peak season was ceding, I had the room to myself. In my constantly-failing memory, there are a few things I cannot forget about this hostel: the nice, clean rooms/bathrooms, the well-stocked (pots, pans, etc) kitchen, very cheap prices (around $20-25 US) and access to phones and internet. Also, there’s something to be said about a hostel with some quiet.
Both nights I was there, Amanda, Chris and I cooked simple but delicious meals that didn’t cost much and accompanied with good cold beer and fun Aussie accents, it was nice to stay in. Enjoyable in fact. From what I could tell and like other Swiss cities, Lucerne didn’t have much of a nightlife. While in Interlaken, most bars in town were closed at 9pm and I found in Lucerne it was unnecessary to even check - all three of us were having a fine time chilling on the chintz chairs in the hostel’s lounge telling hilarious stories of our past travels.
The beds are comfy, the rooms are clean, the people are friendly, and the rent is more than fair for what the hostel encompasses which proves that it’s more than just a roof over your head, its part of the Lucerne experience!!
